1 Chronicles 19:13"Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the Lord do that which is good in his sight."
The children of Ammon got together to fight against David and the Israelites. They also teamed up with another king and his people and hired horsemen and 32,000 chariots to battle! David responded by sending out his army, supervised by Joab. After heading to the battlefield, Joab became aware that the children of Ammon surrounded him. At this point, wouldn’t we understand if Joab felt fearful enough to surrender? He was seemingly out of options. Instead, Joab divided his army in two. The first part would fight on one side, and the second part on the other side with his brother Abishai.
Have you ever been tempted to quit? Sometimes, situations in life surround us, and we can feel great pressure. We can be tempted to quit, give in, and surrender. God has often reminded His people to not give in when they have felt like giving up; and today, He is reminding us—His people—to fight valiantly for Him. When we do, He will do the rest. “Be of good courage” today because the Lord will do that “which is good in his sight.”
